A) P.GURUSAMY- Our Assistant Field Co-ordinator

P. Gurusamy hails from a very small village and joined LEAD as a carpentry instructor. He says, "After a short stint at instructorship, I went into the mainstream of LEAD". He got himself trained to carry out micro credit and other development programmes. As he developed conceptual clarity, he emerged as a trainer. He says, " I lead a team of 14 members and supervise the functioning of 312 groups and 4084 families in 33 major villages. I am very proud to work in an organisation where there is a blend of Gandhian and Marxist ideologies. My involvement in my work has brought a change within me, which I am proud to realise". He not only trains LEAD's team members but also those of other NGOs. LEAD is very proud of him

B) Story of K.PUSHPAM-Our Community Organiser

Ms Pushpam is 21 years old and she has been educated upto Class XII. She joined LEAD after completing school and has put in three years of service here so far. She was timid with a rustic background. Moreover she is disabled too. However these constraints did not affect her carrying out her work capably. When she first started forming Sangams, she was unable to instill confidence amongst the people - but it is a different story now. Not only is she capable of doing so now, but she has also made her groups strong. She handles 45 micro groups (Sangams) and 575 people. She has routed nearly Rs. 2.3 million of credit among her group members. Her monthly financial transactions runs up to Rs. 0.85 million. She has independently mobilised Rs.1.2 million as credit from commercial banks for her group, through effective negotiation with the bankers. Despite her disability, she has developed incredible mobility to reach out to communities. The quality of the records she maintains is excellent. She says, " I never feel I am disabled now. I have gained a lot of confidence from the women with whom I work, which has benefited my own personal life. I have enabled others and in this process I have got enabled as well."
