Bonded Quarry Workers

3. Achievements in the development program for disabled
-
LEAD has 49 Sangams for the disabled, with a membership
of 489 members, which works towards fulfilling the development
needs of the disabled.
- LEAD has 12 disabled on its payroll, most of tem working
for the disabled.
- LEAD has created an interface with between the govt.
and the SHGs, thus paving the way for the disabled to
access facilities from the government.
4. Achievements in Natural Resource Regeneration
and Management
- The farmers took up soil conservation activities and
678 acres are planned to be covered in the period of
three years.
- LEAD has established linkage with Low External Input
and sustainable Agriculture (LESIA) and has been working
with 500 farmers in natural farming.
- LEAD has promoted the concept of kitchen herbal gardens
and importance of herbal medicine among the federation
members.
5. Achievements in Integrated water, sanitation
and hygiene Education
- Participatory learning process is used in every small
group process for people to develop appropriate mental
frame to effect a change in their life.
- We have enabled other NGOs to develop the same expertise
in participatory process.
- Intensive campaigning is carried out in communities
so that they become total sanitation communities.
- The communities have effected appropriate management
system of solid waste and wastewater disposal at domestic
and community levels.
- 22 schools are covered under School Hygiene Promotion
programme.
- 150 children from the hygiene villages were selected
to become " Peer Educators" under "Child
to Child Programme".
- LEAD has helped its members in drilling 150 drinking
water bore wells.
- 20 school toilets were constructed in our project
area Panjapatti.
6. Achievements in working children and rights campaign

LEAD has been involved in the campaign against child
labour and promotion of children's rights.
- LEAD protested against IKEA , which buys materials
from 12 export units for international market, which
employ children.
- LEAD has formed a district committee to campaign against
child labour, which draws membership from various constituencies-teachers,
politicians, trade unions, lawyers ,parents and working
children.
