Right from inception, ASSIST has held the belief that the People’s Organizations are the key to improving the lives of poorer people in village communities.
The aim of the organisation has been to help create and support village-level decision making bodies in order that they become viable units for their own development. ASSIST supports the People’s Organisations in promoting village communities to continue sustainable development independently.

Our interventions are achieved trough the following process:

1.Village entry

Target community is aware of the ASSIST intervention in their community.
All the officials and non-officials are aware.
ASSIST has established a base.
Go to the people.
Do not expect them to come to you.
List of officials, non-officials and service organisations prepared.

2.Village study

INDICATORS
GUIDELINES
Base line data is ready.
Mouza map is available.
Village History is known.
Problems and their root causes are analysed.
Leadership factors known.
Each and every information should be counterchecked by the secondary source.
Data should be documented at village level, area level and central level.

3. Awareness generation

INDICATORS
GUIDELINES
Villagers have identified the problems as problems.
Villagers have started discus-sing about the problems.
Villagers are willing and prepared to overcome the problems.
People are ready to become united and form V.D.S.
Staff should not be hasty in enabling villagers to realise their problems.
The efforts of staff should be in the direction of making the people realise the negative impact due to the problems existing in their village.

4. Forming People’s Organisation (V.D.S)

INDICATORS
GUIDELINES
People’s Organisations with all the families as members is formed as V.D.S.
People’s Organisations have identified and prioritised their problems.
Executive Committee is formed with the representatives from all the sections of the village.
Officials and non-officials are aware of the V.D.S.
Problems are identified and prioritised in such a manner that easy ones are taken in the beginning.
All the families are eligible to become members of V.D.S.
The information is disseminated to all the officials and non-officials. If possible they could be present while forming the V.D.S.

5. Strengthening of VDS

INDICATORS
GUIDELINES
Village Common Fund is established.
V.D.S. has developed an action plan to overcome the identified problems.
V.D.S. has developed the capability to organise periodic meetings, maintain registers, documents etc., execute, monitor and evaluate the programme, develop linkages with government and non- governmental organisations.
Action plan should specify clearly the responsible person for each and every activity, time, resources required and end results.
Records and registers should be maintained with transparency.
Information is disseminated from time to time about the programme planning, executing, monitoring and evaluation.

6. Withdrawal strategy

INDICATORS
GUIDELINES
Sustenance of programmes is ensured.(the above mentioned criteria is considered as indicators for withdrawal)
Matching grant.
Assistance is provided for the needy activities.
Apex body is formed.
