Bandhan
belives that the poor can themselves make a difference in their
own lives provided they have the right opportunities and support.
It also recognizes the fact that women belonging to the poorer section
of the population suffer most due to lack of access to resources,
health care and education. Hence Bandhan's micro credit interventions
is an integral part of its holistic approach to development. The
experienced gained over the years has led by Bandhan to realise
that in addition to access to financial resources, the poor also
need other interventions like inputs and technical assistance, help
in marketing their product, health care and social development programs
for raising awareness for facilitate empowerment.Hence these also
became essential components of the credit program.
Following a "Holistic Approach", Bandhan has initiated
a number of programs for economic and social development of the
poor. These developmental programs may be represented through the
following schematic diagram:

Institution
Building
In order to bring the poor into the mainstream of development, Bandhan
focuses on institution building as a strategy of participation in
development activities.
The Self Help Group (SHG) is set up to:
- Develop a well-disciplined organization of the poor with particular
emphasis on women's participation;
- Develop the capacity of the poor for sustainable development
- Enable the poor to participate in the national development process
These objectives are approached by implementing such steps as forming
SHGs, conducting regular weekly meeting on a fixed day of the week,
at a designated place and time in the evening and imparting training
on human resource and skills development.
Education and Nutrition
The purpose of the Non-Formal Education Program (NFPE) is to provide
basic relevant education to poor unsaved children, along with a
provision for balance nutrition. Recognizing the fact that female
education is very important for poverty alleviation and empowerment.
Bandhan has been created based on the belief that better education
children become better-educated parents. Among the poorest this
has important ramifications in employment opportunities, productivity,
literacy, health, child survival, equity and the role of women.
Educated parents seek better education for their children.
Community
Health
From this year Bandhan have been started his Medical service facilities,
to extend regular health checkups of the child-beneficiaries and
Pre and post natal after care treatment for their mothers on monthly
basis. The service chain includes - Weight measurements, providing
easily available medicines, and necessary referral services in case
of emergent needs.
Afforestation and Awareness Generation
The organization has contributed for environment upgradation through
Afforestation programs in the nearby localities of its operational
area, and conducted several One-day camps on consumer awareness,
AIDs & STD control, Citizenship Rights with special focus on
women etc.
Women Empowerment
Since the organization believes on sustained community development
can only be introduced through the means of sustained development
of its Women members, almost all the programs and schemes, which
are designed and implemented on the field are focused towards their
empowerment. The empowerment mechanism is well-built through the
steps of formation of Self Help Group (SHG) of women, building up
the capacity of the members and their economic sustenance, which
ensures their participation in the decision making process within
